About Perinatology

Division of Perinatology

is a division of the Department of Child Health IImu who provide health care for all newborns (aged 0-28 days), especially with high risk



      o Friendly NICU & SCN
      o Total Parenteral Nutrition
      o Laboratory, ultrasound, echocardiography
      o Ventilator
      o HFO
      o CPAP, T-PIECE Resuscitators
              a. Level III neonatal ward as per international standards:

                   o Special care unit (SCN) for moderate risk infants / post-treatment that has been stable NICU

                      (34 beds)
                   o Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) equipped with a ventilator (such as ventilators, bubble  

                      CPAP, HFO / High Frequency Oscillator (18 beds) and the isolation room (2 beds)
              b. Breastfeeding rooms were clean and comfortable


      o sub-specialist care for neonates (newborns) with high risk
      o Involve sub specialist multidisciplinary (children, heart, eye, surgery, ENT, medical rehabilitation, etc.)

         including operative action (eg PDA ligation)
      o Kangaroo Care or Kangaroo Mother Care
      o Retinopathy Screening and treatment pad a premature baby (Retinopathy of Prematurity)


      o Pre service: (for students who do not have a certificate of competence)
      o In service: learners outside RSCM
      o Learners :: medical students, general practitioners, pediatricians, and nurses


      o Research in the field of neonatology



What case can be handled by Perinatology Division?
Newborns with a high risk, such as infants with respiratory distress, premature and extremely low berat.lahir, severe infections, congenital abnormalities (heart, etc.) including those requiring surgery.

Resources Division of Perinatology
Pediatrician I neonatologists, nurses, medical support staff, and administration are competent and professional.


       o survival rate (survival rate) infants <28 weeks: 34.1% (2008)
       o Lowest Infant birth weight that can be handled with minimal complications: 650gram (2009)

What is Kangaroo Care?


Kangaroo Care

is newborn care by embedding in the mother's chest (skin contact with the baby) so baby stays warm temperatures.

This method of treatment is very beneficial especially for low birth weight babies.

(LBW, birth weight <2500 g)

Terms Kangaroo Care:
For low birth weight babies are stable (bemafas can already spontaneous and has no serious health problems)


Advantages and Benefit of Kangaroo Care :

   o warmth, so that body temperature remains normal.
   o Accelerate expenses and increase breastfeeding success followed.
   o Mother's Milk, the most appropriate feeding untukbayi.
   o Protection from infection.
   o Weight loss quickly rising.
   o Early Stimulation.
   o Compassion.
   o Reduce the cost of hospital care for a short time, do not need an incubator and efficiency of health


Kangaroo Care Intermittent :

   o Kangaroo Care with numbers j short time (attachment> 1 hour per day) done while visiting mom
   o Infants in the healing process still requires medical treatment (intravenous fluids, oxygen)
   o Protection from infection

Kangaroo Care Continous :

   o Baby do Kangaroo Care for 24 hours a day


   o The baby's body cold (body temperature below 36.5 Celsius).
   o Infants become restless, easily aroused, lethargy and unconsciousness, fever (body temperature above
      37.5 Celsius).
   o Infant feeding lazy, do not drink well, vomiting.
   o Baby seizures.
   o Have difficulty breathing, which is breathing fast (more than 60 times a minute and stop breathing for up

      to 20 seconds
   o Diarrhea / loose stools.
   o The skin looks yellow or blue, especially at the mouth / lip baby
   o Demonstrate other alarming symptoms.
