Overview

Organ transplantation is an attempt to move an organ from one body known as the donor to another body that has organ damage known as the recipient. In a kidney transplant, a kidney that is still in good condition from a donor is inserted into the body of a recipient who is suffering from kidney failure. This kidney transplant therapy is one of several renal replacement therapy options indicated for people with kidney failure. Compared to other kidney replacement therapy options such as dialysis/hemodialysis, kidney transplantation is better in terms of providing safety, comfort and improving quality of life. Good results from transplantation procedures also continue to improve along with the development of medicine, better surgical techniques, developing technological support and the latest research.

It has been recorded that around 900 kidney transplant procedures for both adults and children have been carried out by the Dr. National Hospital Transplant Team. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital in the last 20 years. The number of kidney transplant procedures at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital represents 80% of all kidney transplant procedures in Indonesia, making Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital as the main Kidney Transplant Center in Indonesia. Not only assessed based on experience from the number of cases handled, the quality of kidney transplant services at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital can also be assessed based on the success of the transplant, one of which is seen from the one year patient survival indicator , which is the safety of a patient remaining alive after one year after undergoing the transplant procedure.

Number of kidney transplants at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital during 2021-2023 had 217 operations and continues to increase from 62 operations in 2021, 73 operations in 2022, and 82 operations in 2023.

Rejection Rate

Rejection is the most common complication experienced by patients after receiving a kidney transplant. This condition can occur because the body is not yet used to the new kidney organ. As a result, the immune system considers the kidneys as foreign objects and fights to attack the kidneys to protect the body.

At the National Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital , the rejection rate is calculated from the number of patients who experience rejection in the first 3 months after undergoing a kidney transplant. During 2023, there will be a decrease in the rate of acute rejection in post-kidney transplant patients. Even in the 4th trimester, there were no patients who experienced rejection in the first 3 months after kidney transplantation.

One Year Survival Rate

One year survival rate is the number of patients who are still alive at least 1 year after undergoing transplant surgery. Percentage of one year survival rate for kidney transplant patients at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital in the last 3 years was 93%.
