Overview
The need for endoscopy procedures increases every year. National Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo as a tertiary-quaternary level hospital provides basic and advanced endoscopy services. The development of medical technology for treating gastrointestinal cases has had a positive impact on increasing the need for endoscopy services.
Since its founding in 2012, the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center (PESC) has experienced an increase in the volume of services for both basic and advanced endoscopic procedures. The number of actions in 2022 will reach 10,094 actions and will continue to increase in 2023 to 11,840 actions. In the future, it is projected to continue to increase along with improvements in medical technology and disease developments.
The basic endoscopy services that are most widely used by the public are Esophagogastroduodenoscopy or commonly called EGD and colonoscopy, while advanced procedures include Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Submucosal dissection (ESD), Enteroscopy, Pneumatic Bouginal Dilatation, Polypectomy, and Hemostasis.
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
A procedure that combines an endoscopic examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract with an X-ray scan to treat problems with the bile ducts and pancreas.
Indications: Acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), bile duct stones or narrowing of the bile ducts, cholecystitis or inflammation of the bile ducts, pancreas divisum (a disorder where the pancreas has two separate ducts), tumor or cancer of the pancreas, tumor or cancer of the ducts gallbladder, trauma to the biliary tract and pancreas.
Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM)
Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy is a therapeutic procedure for Achalasia. Using the principle of endoscopy to cut the distal esophageal sphincter muscle with the technique of creating a tunnel in the submucosa by separating the mucosa and muscle from the proximal esophagus to the distal esophageal sphincter and resulting in relaxation of the distal esophageal sphincter.
Gastric balloon
Gastric balloon is a weight loss procedure by placing a silicone balloon filled with air or saline in the stomach
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
Endoscopic Ultrasound is a combination of endoscopy and ultrasound that produces a more detailed and detailed picture because it images images directly from the inside, thereby increasing accuracy in carrying out diagnostics and evaluating abnormalities in the digestive tract and pancreatobiliary tract.
